What is Linux

If you are reading this then you are probably don’t know what linux is so I will tell you in this blog post. They are three parts to the linux system. The kernel, the shell, and tools and apps are the three parts of linux. The linux operating system is open sores. When a peace of software and/or operating system is open source it means that the code ( if you will) can be see for whoever wish to see it. It also means that the software and/or operating system can be change to hopefully make it better for the user. Open source means free.The linux operating system is a unix-like operating system and by that I mean is very similar to unix.I will start off in the paragraph talking to you about the kernel. If you know Unix you will know what the kernel. The kernel is the operating system’s code.the kernel is the baseline of all of the operating system and if you were to change the kernel then you might severely screw up your computer.The linux kernel is a very special kernel because every day geeks can change it to hopefully make a better operating system. The linux OS is surprisingly very similar to the unix kernel. I admit that I have not memorized or closely look at the center part of the linux operating system, when I say center I am talking about the three layers of the linux operating system which are three components, the kernel, the shell, and tools and apps.The shell is one of my favorite part of Linux because this is the part that humans interact with and you can mess around with without hurting your computer but at the same time being able to do cool tricks, needed action, searching for files, writing a program, and much more. All the bash commands that you will learn will be use in side the shell and when you open terminal in linux you will be in the shell. An easy way to deifie the shell is to say it is where the computer shows information and the humans inputs data to save or to use to retrieve info for the computer. |The shell is where you will mostly spend your time when you are in terminal you are using the shell.}

In this section I will explain the GUI. I will share with you some tools and apps to use but first. If you are familiar with unix then you will know how helpful and powerful it can be, it can runs apps from simple word pressers to hole operating systems. The linux OS dose not run an operating system but a GUI, graphical user interface. The GUI is what makes linux different from unix. So when you boot up your distribution of linux and after you set it up you will be able to see a desktop instead of just the shell as in unix.This is a good part if you don't know what open source means or is. Basically like I said open source means you can see and change the code. I did go into but I think is imported to know is how are the versos versions categorized. When software or operating system is changed then the final product is called a distribution. When a distribution is updated by its creator it will be called a new version like most other software but when it is updated by a different person that was not command by the creator then the final product is then called another distro, it is short for distribution,To conclude this blog I would like to say that Linux operating system is so amazing because that each layer is so just amazing like, the kernel, the shell, tool and application. Because the kernel is so powerful and is much more then a bunch of useless code. Because the shell is a way to access the main operating system and do cool tricks, but tools and apps are asome for their ability to run a GUI.
